Nine Card Tarot Spread

In Tarot there are no right or wrong ways to spread the cards for your reading. Most Tarot readers develop their own spreads depending on the type of Tarot reading they wish to perform.
This nine card Tarot spread is what I like to call the 'yes - no' reading. That is because it is used when you want to know an answer to a question that would have a yes, no or maybe answer. The Tarot cards are shuffled differently for this spread. The Tarot pack is always handed to the recipient with all the Tarot cards in the upright position. The recipient is then instructed to shuffle the Tarot cards, occasionally turning a portion of the deck to face the opposite direction, always keeping the Tarot cards face down. This will result in some of the Tarot cards being right way up and some upside down. The recipient must ask their question to the Tarot cards whilst shuffling them. The recipient must ask the question in their heads, never out loud. This will ensure that the Tarot reader cannot be influenced by the recipients question. When the recipient feels they have shuffled the Tarot cards enough to answer their question, with some being turned upside down during the shuffle, they are then asked to cut the Tarot cards and hand them back to the Tarot reader. The cards are then dealt from left to right, with the middle card being placed at the top (as in the diagram above). This nine card Tarot spread reveals what is on your mind (the question asked) and what is happening around you at the moment. Once the last card in the nine card spread has been interpreted, the direction of the Tarot cards are counted to see how many are right way up and how many are upside down. The top card counts as two in this equation, so you actually have a score out of ten. The Tarot reader can then give the recipient the answer to their question. If more of the Tarot cards are right way up the answer will be 'yes'. If more of the Tarot cards are upside down the answer will be 'no'. If there is the same number of Tarot cards right way up and upside down the answer will be 'maybe'.
