Celtic Cross Tarot Spread

Spread

The Celtic Cross is probably the oldest and most popular pattern used today in Tarot readings. A strong energy has built up around this spread due to its popular use over the years. The Celtic Cross is often the first spread taught when a person is first introduced to the teachings of Tarot reading. The position of each card has specific meanings (as described below) and therefore makes it easier to learn and interpret. I am by no means suggesting that it is only learners who use the Celtic Cross, many Tarot Readers prefer this spread. Also, because the Celtic Cross has become synonymous with Tarot readings, many recipients prefer to have their readings conducted in this way.

Although the Celtic Cross is used in general readings, it can also be used
to find the answer to specific questions. It is always good practice to ask the recipient if they have a specific question in mind before you ask them to shuffle the Tarot cards, instructing them to be careful in the formulation of their questions. Asking confusing questions, or more than one at a time, can lead to complications in the interpretation of the Tarot cards in the reading. It is always better to be clear and specific when
asking the Tarot questions.

Before starting this Celtic Cross Tarot reading you must ensure all the Tarot cards are facing the same direction in the pack. The recipient is then asked to shuffle the Tarot cards. When the recipient feels they have shuffled the Tarot cards sufficiently for their Tarot reading, they are asked to cut the Tarot cards and place the bottom section onto the top. The
Tarot reader then arranges the cards as in the diagram above.

The position of the cards denotes their meanings, which are detailed below:

Card 1: Centre - The present
Card 2: Crossed over the centre card - The immediate challenge facing you
Card 3: Below the centre card - Distant past, foundation.
Card 4: Above the centre card - More recent past, including events.
Card 5: To the right of the centre card - The best that can be achieved.
Card 6: To the left of the centre card - Immediate Future.
Card 7: Bottom of line - Factors or inner feelings affecting you
Card 8: Second in line - External influences.
Card 9: Third in line - Hopes or fears.
Card 10: Top of line - Destiny.

As with all future predictions you must make sure the recipient is aware that they are intended as 'guidelines only'. Everybody has the power to change anything they do not like as regards to their lives. Being forewarned about future events can enable people to change the things the don't like, or ensure they don't miss the good opportunities that may come their way. Your future is entirely in your own hands.
